Thursdays, 4:00 - 6:00 - Join me for "Friday Eve" pau hana at Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the old Hilo Shopping Center. Let's get caffinated!                Right - At the Kope Kope

First Thursday, each month, weather permitting - Hawaiian Constellations Storytelling and singing at the Onizuka Visitor Center on Mauna Kea (9,000 ft. level). Program starts with a chant at sunset. Then I'll sing some songs I've written about my experiences here, and tell stories about the Hawaiian constellations.

January, 2004

Thursday, January 15 - Young `ukulele virtuoso Brittni Paiva joins Leilehua at the Kope Kope in the Hilo Shopping Center. 4:00-6:00 pm. 

Saturday, January 17 - Leilehua and Halau Hula Namohala Hala`i provide the evening cultural program at the Onizuka Center For International Astronomy (visitor center on Mauna Kea).

Saturday, January 31 - Leilehua demonstrates hula at the Volcano Art Center in conjunction with the Hula Kahiko series. Phone 967-7565 for more information.

February, 2004

2 Saturdays, February 7&14 - Leilehua teaches Hula Mai, an Introduction to Hawaii's Native Dance. This beginning hula intensive workshop covers the role of hula in Hawaiian culture, basic protocols, and hula steps, plus a traditional hula dance. Ages 13 & up. $55 for 2 classes. Call (808) 967-8222. 10:00 am - 2:30 pm. Hosted by the Volcano Art Center.

February 26, 4-6pm - Well-known environmentalist, composer, guitarist, singer Howard Shapiro joins Leilehua at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center.

Friday, Mar 5 - Tuesday, Mar 9 -  Volcano Art Center Elderhostel Tour. Leilehua and her haumana, Akane, lead an Elderhostel tour through Ka`u and Kona, from Punalu`u to Anaeho`omalu.

Thursday, Mar 11, 4-6 pm - Hawaiian music at the Kope Kope. Leilehua plays at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center. 

Thursday, Mar 18, 4-6 pm - Hawaiian and Irish music at the Kope Kope. Leilehua plays at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center. Let's turn THIS one into a ceili!

Thursday, Mar 25, 4-6 pm - Hawaiian music at the Kope Kope. Environmentalist/musician Howard Shapiro joins Leilehua at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center. Howard will play songs from his new album, as well as old favorites.

April, 2004

Thursday, Apr 1, 4-6 pm - Foolish music at the Kope Kope. How many pranks can one musician play in one gig? Leilehua plays at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center. 

Friday, Apr 2 - University of Hawai`i at Hilo Elderhostel program, "Na Mo`olelo o Mauna Kea - Stories of Mauna Kea." Leilehua tells stories of this sacred mountain.

Saturday, Apr 3 - University of Hawai`i at Hilo Elderhostel program, "A Foot in and a Foot Out - Dynamics of a Symbiotic Relationship with Culture and Science". Kahalelaukoa Ell and Leilehua Yuen discuss the blending of modern science and traditional culture.

Thursday, Apr 8, 4-6 pm - Wild Irish Roses reunite at the Kope Kope!. Fiddler Mary Collier, co-founder of "The Wild Irish Roses," joins Leilehua at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center. 

Wednesday, April 14 - Saturday, April 17  - Merrie Monarch Hula Festival! Look for Leilehua at various venues throughout Hilo.

Thursday, Apr 8, 4-6 pm - Hawaiian music at the Kope Kope. Leilehua plays at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center. You never know when some hula dancers will suddenly start to perform! Here, Sherri and Malia, beginning hula students, dance to Ulu Palakua, a song about the famous ranch on the island of Maui.


Tuesday, Apr 13, 7 pm - After Dark in the Park program at Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park. Howard Shapiro, musician/environmentaist, performs and hosts this evening program which includes performances by Marsha Hee, Leilehua Yuen, Angie Baker, Leina Leong and Jessica (Tiger) Marcus.

Thursday, Apr 15, 4-6 pm - Total Hawaiian Out at the Kope Kope in honor of the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, the world's LARGEST and FIRST hula-fest! Leilehua plays at the Kope Kope Espresso Cafe in the Hilo Shopping Center.

Saturday, May 1, Leilehua in Waikoloa demonstrating the art of kahili in Lei Day celebrations.

Saturday, May 2, Hawai`i Motorcycle Tours takes a journey around the island of Hawai`i with road captains Manu Josiah and Leilehua Yuen.

Monday, May 3 - Thursday, May 6 - Leilehua teaches lauhala weaving in Kona.
