Na Pule - The Prayers

Please check back as more educational materials will be uploaded

Dawn Prayer for the workshop will be held at 6 am on  Saturday and Sunday.

Protocol is that we arise and `au`au (bathe). During the bathing, we focus on washing away all negative thoughts and prepare to receive the knowledge the new day will bring.

We maintain silence as we gather at the designated spot to great the sun and celebrate the return of light, gathering in a semi-circle facing east.

The first pule (prayer) we will use is a hula chant which celebrates the coming of dawn. The second asks for knowledge, wisdom, and love to do our handwork. The third pule clears the path before us as we walk toward greater knowledge and wisdom.

Ho'opuka e ka La ma ka Hikina

Ho'opuka e ka lā ma ka hikina
Me ka huaka'i hele no Kumukahi
Ha'a mai nā 'iwa me Hi'iaka
     Me Kapo-Laka i ka uluwehiwehi
Ne'e mai nā 'iwa ma ku'u alo
Me ke alo kapu o ke āiwaiwa
Ho'i nō e ke kapu me nā ali'i
E ola mākou a pau loa lā

He inoa no Hi'iakaikapoliopele

Bursting Forth is the Sun in the East

Bursting forth is the Sun in the East
With a procession going to Kumukahi
Dancing are the `iwa birds with Hi`iaka
And Kapo-Laka in the verdant groves
Swaying along, the dancers move toward me
And into the presence of the most sacred
Let the sacred ways return to the chiefs
     Life unending for us all

In the name of Hi`iaka-in-the-bosom-of-Pele

Bring Unto Me

Bring unto me
The things of knowledge of the forest
Unto me, unto me, unto me

Bring unto me
The things of wisdom of the young growth
Unto me, unto me, unto me

Bring unto me
The things of love to my hands
Unto me, unto me, unto me

Malu ke Ala

Noho ana ke akua i ka nāhelehele
I ālai `ia e ke kī`ohu`ohu
E ka ua koko
E nā kino malu i ka lani
Malu e hoe
E ho`oulu mai ana `o Laka i kona kahu
`O au, `o au nō ā

The Path is Cleared

The god dwells in the forest
Hidden away by the mists
And the low-lying blood-red rainbows
O you spirits peaceful in the heavens
Shelter us as we walk
Laka inspires her devotee
Me, me indeed
