Leilehua Yuen's Art of Hawai`i |
|
||
![]() "Na Hua Loa o Hawai`i" by Leilehua Yuen This ipu pawehe is decorated in the Ni`ihau style in which the skin of the still living gourd is incised with patterns. The gourd is then injected with dyes, resulting in the dramatic coloration seen. Incising was done in May of 2001. Tended every day, the ipu finished fermenting the colors in August. The title of this ipu, Na Hua Loa o Hawai`i, literally translates as "The Many Seeds of Hawai`i." However, the figurative meaning is the many people who live on the Hawaiian islands, extending their roots and flourishing. $430, includes shell stopper and certificate of authenticity. SOLD |
