Hula Implements and Accessories

`Uli`uli
   The "gourd" rattles of Hawai`i were often made of coconut as well. This one is crafted using only materials and techniques available before 1778. Private collection
.

This pair was made for a husband and wife. 		    Above, another `uli`uli is decorated with kapa (bark cloth) which was beaten by Leilehua Yuen from wauke she grew in the Kona district of Hawai`i Island. It is painted with native dyes and made only of materials and techniques available prior to 1778. Private collection.

This is the most basic ancient style. Hand polished and drilled coconut shell with seeds or pebbles inside and a lau hala handle. $50.

`Ohe Hanuihu - Bamboo Nose Flutes

These small ohe hanuihu (about 8"-12" long) made from non-native bamboo are only $16 each, shipping within US included. Their purchase helps to reduce stresses on the ever-more-rare native bamboo.
Leilehua also makes larger nose flutes with a deeper tone, and will make flutes from native bamboo by special order - $50 and up.
